Hello all! We won't be having a president's message this month. Carole A. Ferrill, State President 2007/2008 INCENTIVE UPDATE - Day One Click to expand
Wow, what a first day for the incentive! Historic number of first-day applicants in the main queue. We must have done a better job at getting the word out, or maybe it was the extra 5% during hurricane season, or a combination thereof. There were four people actually waiting at the door of our office to turn in multiple applications. Now the following numbers are tentative, because the packages have not all been checked for proper documentation, nor been verified that Florida expenditures they’ve budgeted are acceptable qualified expenditures. But I know you’d want an idea of what happened on day one: 20 productions applied today for the General Production Queue alone (Films, TV, Commercials and Music Videos). They expect to spend over $92,000,000 in Florida as qualified expenditures (money paid to Florida residents and Florida businesses.) Most interesting is that 15 of the projects have start dates before the end of the year – meaning the off-season bonus seems to have worked. As you recall, last year we had almost no production during hurricane season. Not all of those 15 will get the bonus, as some don’t have a full 75% of their production days occurring during hurricane season. Of the first-day applicants, 8 are reality shows, 7 are feature films, 3 are TV series, 1 is a telenovela, and 1 is a made-for-television movie. One documentary applied for the indie film queue, so there’s plenty of money left in that queue for Florida’s indie filmmakers. And 3 digital media projects applied for the interactive queue. The only down side for the main queue is that all of its incentive money may be fully allocated in just a few days…maybe tomorrow! Last year, with almost the same amount of incentive, we didn’t run out until October! Unfortunately, when that happens, producers tend to stop calling. We will update you regularly, and release contact information for individual productions as soon as possible.
